About

The importance of your dental health has been brought to light more in 2020 than any other year I have been alive. The Pandemic brought your dental health to light in ways that most of us did not imagine.  When the pandemic started our teeth were not the center of attention. But as time has shown and the majority of Americans are now wearing masks we are noticing our breath.  This is generally letting the population know how good their dental hygiene is right off the bat by the smell of their breath.  Bad breath can be the cause of many different dental issues and the decay of your tooth enamel is a big one.  Now there are so many ways to help in this area, but the biggest area that gets neglected and not even thought of is your diet.  What you are eating and more specifically drinking can make a big difference in halitosis and bad breath. Liquids can help and also be a preventative on what your diet is.  So let's dive into this topic a bit more and see what we can do to help our dental health.

The first thing to think about is the intake of liquids that are known to be harmful.  Many of us know that sugary and acidic liquids are harmful to our health and also to our teeth.  The issue is that many of us simply ignore this until it is too late.  But if you didn't know, your main pop or soda drinks have massive amounts of sugar in them.  This sugar clings to teeth and starts to break down your tooth enamel and plaque starts to form.  This also is a bit of reason for tooth decay.  The more this happens halitosis starts to kick in and bad breath is a side effect of drinking sugary sodas.  There are a lot of alternatives to this.

The first and most obvious idea is to drink less of these sugary sodas.  Now some people simply do not want to do this.  There are great alternatives like Zevia that have zero sugar and use alternative sweeteners that are known to be healthy instead of harmful like aspartame.  This is a great way to cut down on your soda intake and to help your breath not get worse.  Now if you are anything like me coffee is a staple in your diet as well.

I love coffee in the morning and that is how I start my day.  I do drink too much coffee knowing that it is harmful and acidic.  This causes tooth enamel to erode much faster than it should and is also a big cause of bad breath.  But I know that I can simply drink less or another alternative is to drink lower acid coffee as well. This is a great way to lower down the bad effects of coffee on your dental hygiene and is something that I have implemented into my diet.

Another way to help your mouth is to simply drink more water.  This provides hydration to your body and also allows your body to create saliva.  I enjoy the idea that drinking water can help my breath. I do suggest getting a water bottle to carry around with you and to keep your water intake up.  It helps clean your teeth and lower bad breath.  Hope these tips help!
